A blisteringly funny, award-winning, five-star hit from Edinburgh Fringe of class and privilege.

Five-star, smash-hit, award-winning, sell-out masterpiece! A darkly funny and politically sharp story of class, survival, and double standards. Jade, a working-class Scouser at Cambridge, secretly works as a cleaner to make ends meet—breaking college rules while juggling ambition, privilege, and identity. Her journey is a hilarious and moving dive into belonging and the absurdity of privilege.

Winner of The Scotsman’s Fringe First Award, The Holden Street Theatres’ Edinburgh Fringe Award 2025, and The Filipa Bragança Award.

Meet the Team

  • Jade Franks, curlers in hair, green top with gold chain around her neck. Pink mottled background.

    Jade Franks

    WRITER / PERFORMER

Jade is an actor, writer and director from Merseyside. The inclusion and celebration of work from and for

working class people is vital to Jade’s creative process and believes that the work that goes into building

and maintaining relationships with the communities who come to the theatre is as important as the work

that goes into creating the shows themselves. She often works with theatres and producers to engage with

and radically invite audiences who may not otherwise feel welcome. Acting/writing credits include: SAGA

(BBC Radio 4), Hot In Here (Gate Theatre), One Night Stand with Felix Mufti (Royal Court), Run and

Painkiller (Theatre Royal Stratford East). Outreach credits include: Retrograde (The Apollo), Death of

England (Soho Place), Hot Wing King (The National Theatre), SEEN Lewisham Festival (Nouveau

Riche/Catford Broadway), For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy

(Royal Court Theatre, The Apollo, Garrick).

REVIEWS

★★★★★ "Jade Franks – remember the name – skewers the institution of class privilege in a performance that is as funny as it is politically stinging.” – The Guardian

“Mostly, though, Franks brings the monologue form back to life through sheer force of personality.” – Financial Times

“What elevates this show is Franks’s high-energy performance and bulldozer charm; it’s impossible not to be won over.” – The Telegraph
