Eileen Gray

(working title)

This is the first Creative Development of 'Eileen Gray' a new theatre work based on true stories from life in the South East region known as the ‘Lucerne Belt’.

Eileen Gray is a fictitious person who represents many women and girls who were born into and grew up in remote and regional areas.

Through her we see the relationships and lifestyle of farm managers, their families and farm life and how love and the beauty and strength of one woman’s soul kept her alive.

Under Director Yasmin Gurreeboo and Dramaturg Nescha Jelk we will improvise the material and film this to be transcribed and prepared into the final draft.

Soundscape and Sound Design by Sascha Budimski

The first Creative Development of 'Eileen Gray' started with a basic outline and a story of a woman in the Southeast, some staging concepts and design ideas. We workshopped the first ideas for the script with two actors Geoff Revell and Martha Lott at Holden Street. From this, we found it necessary to explore the concept with four actors. I wrote a new draft with four actors and a restructure. We engaged new creatives as Geoff was no longer available, and did a table read of the second concept. Again, we found that this was not serving the themes and ideas. Discussion and exploration offered a completely new concept for the play, which resulted in a platform for the themes, actors and story; it offers a work that addresses a hole in the industry for middle-aged and advanced-aged female actors and deals with important issues and current themes.
