NEWS

As you know Holden Street Theatres’ future has been under threat for some time. Now we have some answers.

Holden Street Theatres has been offered an extension of 5 years by Minister Michael Wright

Thanks to the support and help of Arts SA and especially Alex Reid and Greg Mackie the Minister offered an extension until November 2017. Holden Street can now focus on the development of the Holden Street Theatre Company Inc. and the export of home grown theatre.

Also offered to Holden Street was a grant of $30,000 for the improvement of Technical Equipment and/or Patron Amenities. This will go a long way to ensure we are hirer friendly and we thank Arts SA for this.

The announcement was made that the award winning Directors' Choice Season would be shelved until further notice due to a lack of enthusiasm in the industry

In it's place 'The Graduates Season' was launched, an award/grant whereby we offer the graduates of both AC Arts and Flinders University a two week season in the year after they graduate.

"Students will have the opportunity to put themselves on show after they have graduated. They will have the opportunity to be proactive about their careers and showcase what they have learned" said Martha Lott, Artistic Director of Holden Street. "Graduates will produce their own work and manage their own Front of House and we will provide the space for them to do this. I believe it is a great learning tool for them and will give them an opportunity to present themselves in a showcase and get a rung on the ladder." for more details go to "The Graduates" page

The Edinburgh Award was also mentioned and the fact that Holden Street is the only entity to offer an award which tours a production to Adelaide and in fact Australia and that again in 2011 we look forward to presenting another hit show. We are currently taking expressions of interest for our Judges to view shows in Edinburgh, not to mention producitons for Adelaide Fringe 2011

Holden Street will continue to provide a high calibre Fringe Program and maintain its strong presence in the industry throughout the year.

Thank you to those who helped, you know who you are.

Urban Myth Theatre of Youth gives 'freedom' to young artists in their fifth annual production created by emerging writers, directors and actors

Director: Isabelle Danforth-Smith and Guy O'Grady (I Am The Messiah); David Hirst (Industrial Park)

Cast: Urban Myth Theatre of Youth ensembles

Now in its fifth season, Out Of The Boot is an annual production by the Urban Myth Theatre of Youth for the Holden Street Theatres stage. The production is designed to encourage, support and nourish young artists through a series of mentorships, culminating in a spectacular series of performances.

With a theme of 'freedom', this year's Out Of The Boot production involves two ensembles of young actors aged 14-17 presenting two half hour plays. I Am The Messiah explores the dark side of reality TV, while Industrial Park deals with issues such as peer pressure, drugs and accountability for your actions through the story of a street kid who join a gang to gain a sense of family.
