Our Venues

Holden Street Theatres comprises of three performance spaces in two beautiful heritage listed church buildings in Hindmarsh South Australia, with our head office located at Thebarton Theatre. With the introduction of the Holden Street Theatres' Arts Park we have also increased our performance spaces to include a number of rooms that can be used for performance, developments and even exhibitions as well as The Barabra Hardy Garden, a lovely sunken garden perfect for warm evening performances.

We have gained local, national, and international recognition as a venue that supports new collaborations, produces internationally viable work, and supports companies to develop high calibre productions.

In the past we have activated Adelaide Town Hall, The Royalty Theatre, and vacant office blocks to offer fully equipped, successful Fringe venues. If you would like us to discuss possibilites of this for your show or venue, please contact us through the head office.

Features of Holden Street Theatres

Both buildings are heritage listed and boast beautiful wooden ceilings and incredible acoustics.

The original stained glass windows in The Arch are back lit, which are used in conjunction with halogen lights in the ceiling to accentuate the wood and to create stunning house lights.

The Studio offers a more contemporary feel with it's black box style, and can offer a more versatile canvas for designers. The configuration is adaptable and details on this can be obtained through the venue.

Technical Equipment of Holden Street Theatres

Our equipment is more than capable of handling the needs of most theatre, dance, and musical productions, including multiple shows through Adelaide Fringe. As many companies like to bring in their own equipment, we are happy and able to accommodate this as well.

We are supported by Novatech Pty Ltd and can order equipment in for you or direct you to them should you need.

Technical Support of Holden Street Theatres

Our resident Technical Manager is on hand to support you in finding your way around our gear and for showing you where everything is.

Your hire will include maintenance and replacement should anything go wrong. Please discuss with the Venue Manager when you confirm your booking.

Additional Options of Holden Street Theatres

We are always keen to increase the opportunities for Holden Street to present great performances, and we are always open to trying new spaces. In the past we have housed site specific work in caravans, gardens, shipping containers, and turned the boardroom of our neighbors office into a wonderfully intimate space known as The Manse.
