Stand-up comedy is internationally “sexier” than ever. And as the people appearing in the play are stand-up comics (as well as actors) it seemed a good bet.

The two leads are Greg Fleet, playing a one-time King of comedy who is brilliant but is gradually drinking and drugging his way out of the limelight. (It's hardly acting!)

Krutika Harale plays the young dynamo comic who is on her way up. The next big thing. She too is brilliant, but also kind, she is on her way to somewhere fabulous. (In my opinion, it's hardly acting!)

When they meet, sadness and laughter ensue. As both characters are successful comedians, the hilarity is genuine, but the heartbreak is devastating.

Cast Biography

Greg Fleet

Greg Fleet is an award-winning actor, comedian, playwright and author. Born in Michigan, USA, his family moved to Victoria when he was aged four. He studied at NIDA for a year before being expelled in 1983. His acting career began opposite Nicole Kidman in 1984 (Matthew and Son) and he went on to star in, amongst other things, Prisoner, Underbelly: Squizzy, The Flying Doctors, The Hard Word, Neighbours, Stingers, Blue Heelers, Phoenix, Janus, and the series Wolf Creek, he also played STEVO, “the Ausiest bloke in the world” in the UKTV production of Al Murrays Pub Landlord, as well as treading the boards and getting a best actor nomination* in Twelfth Night for the Melbourne Theatre Company.

On television he is probably best remembered for killing the much loved character Daphne in Neighbours, though no one has ever ascertained whether this was drama or comedy.

He was regularly (if somewhat begrudgingly) employed as a voice over artist appearing in over 100 commercials for TV and Radio. The highlight of his “talking for money” career was 12 years as the Yellow Dog for Home Hardware.

For 2 years he worked for Austereo hosting the breakfast show on 2Day FM alongside his old friend Wendy Harmer.

Best known for a stand-up comedy career that has seen him acclaimed all over the world, Greg’s comedy across TV, film, radio and theatre, has made him one of the most respected and beloved comics around. He has received numerous 5 star reviews and been nominated for awards both here and overseas, winning Best Show at the Melb Int Comedy Fest. To date he has appeared in 31 MICF shows as well as numerous episodes of Good News Week, The Big Gig, Full Frontal, The Comedy Company, Spics and Specs etc.

As a writer, Greg’s hilarious and harrowing memoir, These Things Happen (Pan Macmillan), was published in 2015 and his first novel The Good Son in 2018 (Penguin). He has adapted his live show Thai-Die (about being kidnapped in Thailand) for Random House. And he also wrote and costarred with Adam Hills, Bill Hunter and Allan Brough in the 8 part comedy drama DIE ON YOUR FEET for Ted Robinson’s GNWTV and Ch10 (2016).

Currently Greg is currently writing the screen adaptation of The Good Son. His plays, including This Is Not A Love Song (2016) and Signifying Nothing (2019), and more recently The Twins (2021) have all received glowing reviews and numerous Best Theatre and Critics Choice awards across Australia.

Kru Harale

Kru Harale is a Melbourne-based Comedian & Actor, whose vivacious energy crackles through her performance. As seen on ABC’s ‘Win The Week', Kru is quickly gaining recognition in the industry. She has performed alongside Australia’s legends including Kitty Flanagan, Dave O'Neil, Anne Edmonds and many more. With regular appearances at Comedy Republic, Kru has been making Australia laugh with her ‘fresh’ (off the boat) perspectives while describing her global adventures. An alumni of STS (Sydney Theatre School) and ITS (Improv Theatre Sydney), her work encompasses Stand up, Sketch comedy, Improv and Acting. She started her career with significant success - performing at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival - Showcase in 2022 and had sold-out shows at Melbourne & Adelaide Fringe Festivals. Her comedy is truly eclectic but subtle. She explores complex societal issues with a gentle but uniquely inquisitive style. Her expressive energy, stage presence and truly original perspectives, are what she'll bring to her performance in A Star is Torn.
