Our Solar System
Safari Street Creative present
Adelaide Fringe Reviews
★★★★ 1/2 "Our Solar System is refreshingly honest and unpretentious. It is nostalgia. It is regret. It is the gravitational tug of our individual solar systems." - Kryztoff RAW
"...I'm standing on a beach a million miles from nowhere..."
In this intimate one-man performance, John returns home to a barren spit of land somewhere on the Yorke Peninsula, ready to pay his respects to a fisherman he barely knew. He remembers a shanty a million miles from nowhere. Sand in his hair. Old Man Stingray and a sea of memory he's desperate to piece together. Too bad he's afraid of water.
A new work by Safari Street Creative about time, place, the regret that sits in between and how the course of your life is directed not by the things you do, but more by the things you don’t.
Written & Performed by Spencer Scholz
Directed by Samantha Riley
About Safari Street Creative
Safari Street Creative will be a new theatre and arts company launching during Fringe with Our Solar System being its inaugural performance. The aim of the company is to produce new works without ceremony that are raw, dangerous and provide a unique experience for audiences.
For the moment, Safari Street will be a hub for our own creative endeavours including performance, visual arts, journalism and film but the hope is to build connections and collaborations with other artists and independent theatremakers in Adelaide for future works.
Spencer grew up in SA but studied acting at the University of Ballarat Arts Academy and has worked since as a performer, director and creative with Australian Shakespeare Company, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company, Aunty Donna and on his own works as part of Educated Rats Theatre Company. He moved back to Adelaide a couple years ago and has written a number of plays over the past 12 months he's looking to stage in the near-future. The first of these being the one-man show called Our Solar System held at Holden Street Theatres as part of Adelaide Fringe 2020.
Samantha is also a graduate of the University of Ballarat Arts Academy, however from its Musical Theatre course. She has performed nationally & internationally with musical productions such as The Boyfriend (The Production Company), Australia’s premiere production of Addams Family: The Musical and the most recent Gordon Frost production of Annie: The Musical alongside Anthony Warlow, Chloe Dallimore and Todd McKenney. She now works as a local SA theatremaker and director with her most recent credits being with South Australian Playwrights Theatre for productions such as The Middle Way and Bordertown.
