His one-man musical comedy show CHRONIC premiered at the Melbourne Comedy Festival to critical acclaim, drawing comparisons with Nick Cave and Flight of the Conchords and seeing him hailed as “on the fast track to musical comedy’s big leagues” [Michael Ward, Herald Sun] A few weeks later, Arts NSW awarded Luke a grant to take his show to the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe, where it packed out rooms and garnered rave reviews, before returning to a sold out performance at the Sydney Fringe, in front of ABC cameras. As a result, Luke was asked to come and share the story behind “CHRONIC” with a room full of politicians and pharmaceutical reps at a recent lunch at Parliament House in Canberra. Now he’s getting ready to pimp himself to the Adelaide Fringe. Performed on an old acoustic guitar, a loop pedal and a toy keyboard he bought for $5 from a little girl in Bondi, CHRONIC explores issues of male health, both mental and physical, using an infectious style of music that mixes funky, literate pop and flippant hip hop – or “Flip Flop”. The show raises awareness of a chronic illness that affects over 70 000 Australians, including Luke himself, while still remaining “sharp and extremely funny” [AU Review]. Luke is 2 metres tall, rake thin, speaks in a polite baritone and dresses like a pimp. He’ll explain why “Hilarious ****” [ThreeWeeks, Edinburgh Fringe] “The perfect amounts of uncomfortable, edgy and very funny” [Theatre Press] www.facebook.com/lukeescombemusic http://lukeescombeandthecorporation.bandcamp.com/ Email Luke Escombe at lukeescombe@gmail.com to find out more… Book through FringeTIX 1300FRINGE (1300 374 643) (Booking Fees Apply) Holden Street Theatres 34 Holden Street Hindmarsh NEXT TO SOCCER STADIUM (Free Parking) |
