Adelaide Fringe 2012 - Melbourne Dance Theatre’s return to Adelaide

Following the debut & successes at the 2010 & 2011 Adelaide Fringes, Melbourne Dance Theatre is proud to announce its return to Adelaide in 2012 with another exceptional work: ‘Angels’ Eyes’. This newly created work is best described as a visually intriguing, moving and captivating painting of unique woven movement that entices and challenges audiences. The Melbourne Dance Theatre opens at the “Holden Street Theatres – The Studio” for a short yet memorable three day season – 9th, 10th & 11th March 2012.

With ‘Angels’ Eyes’, choreographers Martin & Michelle Sierra have assembled a diverse cast of performing artists that embrace a choreography rich with virtue, sensibility, grace, intrigue and challenge and spoken in a language of skilled aerial partnering, expressionism and a fusion of contemporary dance disciplines. Melbourne Dance Theatre’s performance of 'Angels’ Eyes' is an innovative new work produced especially for the Adelaide Fringe Festival. 'Angels' Eyes’ takes you on a journey to explore the world we live in through the beautiful eyes of children with autism whose outlook on life is pure, coated in sweet innocence, embraces simplicity and inspires profound inner joy and happiness. This work promises a profound experience that is deeply moving, impacting and visually inspiring.

This fresh vibrant choreography is an innovative new work spoken in a language of neo-expressionism and a fusion of diverse contemporary dance disciplines. Influenced by the German Expressionist Dance background - ‘Ausdrucktanz’ mixed with intricate partnering, fluid classical ballet and contemporary dance fusion, the Melbourne Dance Theatre produces a unique contemporary trade brand self named as the ’21st Century Dance of Expression’.

The Adelaide Fringe Festival 2012 represents a large skew of interest in the performing arts. With each year’s growing audiences and artists’ participation, the festival offers the perfect soil to grow interest on Melbourne Dance Theatre’s unique style. Melbourne Dance Theatre aspires to respond to the interest shown by Adelaide Fringe audiences – by offering a range of unique contemporary performances.

Directors of the Melbourne Dance Theatre, Martin & Michelle Sierra, from Melbourne, have traversed the globe to master the art of dance, working alongside some of Europe’s leading dancers in Russia, Berlin, Austria and Germany, with a wealth of training and experience between them. Melbourne Dance Theatre was formed in May 2003. The company was birthed out of a passion to create works that captivate and challenge, inspire and stimulate audiences. We seek to be at the forefront of dance, creatively pushing the constrains of our art form, however in this pursuit never compromising the essence what dance is. Our desire is to be seen, to endue audiences of all ages and across cultures, presenting our works for audiences in locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. While our dancers are united a strong classical ballet background, choreographically we allude to a myriad of disciplines, drawing on the dancers great versatility of skills. As we employ hints of acrobatics, prose and voice to the indefinable gamete of dance forms, an entirely unique form is fused. Thus we are not purely a dance company, but a Dance Theatre, a collaboration of art forms and an exciting union of skills.
