The much anticipated debut solo show from multi award winning, and cheeky cockney Beckett, delivers bucket loads of mirth, and even occasional laughter-snorts of recognition. Rob has taken UK comedy by storm with his unique observations, unusual take on life, and tales of growing up in a large and loud south-east London family. Rob only started performing as a stand-up in early 2009 but very quickly enjoyed success in all of the new comedian competitions in the UK, winning 4 in his first year alone. Consistently impressive performances in these competitions culminated in success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010. Rob beat hundreds of hopeful wannabe's to win the prestigious Amused Moose Laugh Off award, compered by Stephen K Amos in front of an audience which included over 100 comedy industry executives from around the globe. This win earned Rob the invitation to perform at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, in addition to the glory of being presented with the much coveted shiny Moose trophy by the CEO of the Edinburgh Fringe. Previous winners and runner ups in the Amused Moose Laugh Off include Rhod Gilbert, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican, Nina Conti, Mark Watson, Jack Whitehall, Rob Deering, Andrew Lawrence and Alex Horne. As a middle child desperate for attention in a loud extended family of London 'black cab' taxi drivers, all fighting to be heard, he discovered the solution was to be funny. Rob was inspired by, and hugely in awe of, his Grandad's jokes. Only until he saw a Tommy Cooper video however and realised, even at such a tender age, that Grandad Cook was sadly a massive plagiarist. Now that Rob has thrust himself further into the limelight, he frequently finds himself in a middle class world with what he believes is a terrible accent and working class outlook. As a result he has found himself in a socio-economic purgatory, permanently confused, and swinging from behaving too middle class for his family and too common for his new found peers. Beckett performed in a 4 star show at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe, is regularly on stage at some of the biggest comedy clubs in the UK, and recently supported Jim Jefferies on his Alcoholocaust tour. Awards & Competitions: Reviews/Press etc: 'Beckett had youthful energy in spades and a distinctive but uncontrived look with his white blond hair and megawatt smile…interestingly random, with a nicely absurd edge': Chortle.co.uk ‘An alluring mix of well-made observations, imaginative metaphors and a stylish take on his supposed doppelgangers…whip-sharp writing’: Chortle.co.uk ‘A very funny young man, very funny’: Stephen K Amos ‘A likeable high tempo comic’: The Guardian ‘Fast, innovative, polished’: Three Weeks ”Energetic Rob Beckett, with his fast paced punchy material’: Leicester Mercury |
