Holy Guacamole
By Daniel Evans The Good Room

In the depths of suburbia, lives Eustace - a half-boy/ half-avocado hybrid of human outcast and exotic fruit. It's not easy being green when you live on the fringes of good taste and monstrous 'normality'. In this black-green comic fairy tale, backyard magic and suburban angst collide with mouth-watering results!

MORE INFO

Holy Guacamole follows the plight of 15-year-old Eustace Hinge, a boy born with all the features of an avocado. While his parents are shagging like banshees in an effort to conceive a 'normal' child, Eustace is working on a magic show with his best friend Camille who can't decide whether she's a Muslim or a Buddhist. Lingering in the background of this strange suburban world is the dazzlingly beautiful Sheena triplets and Eustace's haunting grandmother Mavis who holds the answers to Eustace's avocado heritage.

Set in Brisbane's faceless outer suburbs, Holy Guacamole is a (sub)urban Greek Tragedy where Sylvannia Waters meets Heathers via Stepford. This coming-of-age work explores our obsession with the abnormal, our fear of the unknown and the desire to find acceptance and belonging within an image-conscious, outward-looking community.

Holy Guacamole played to both critical and commercial success as part of a sold out Queensland season in 2006 and has been described as a "funny yet sad picture of suburbia" (Stagediary.com) and "an Australian Edward Scissorhands" (SCENE Magazine).
