Lazy Young & Talented with The Good Room COMEDY (QLD) 27 Feb - 9 Mar Tickets From $12.00 Venue: Holden Street Theatres – The Arch Single girls get a date at the Fringe The ups, downs, hangovers and facebook neurosis of Australia's increasingly single twentysomethings will be deftly played out by a Brisbane-based collective presenting highly topical new theatre at The Adelaide Fringe from 27 Feb - 9 Mar. Anyone who's ever texted under the influence, danced on their lonesome or been asked the question – repeatedly – "When are you getting married?" will instantly relate to Lazy Young & Talented and The Good Room's Single Admissions; a darkly satirical story of three young women navigating the perils of dating. Characters Kat, Peta and Alisha are twenty somethings, bold, often drunk, sometimes brazen and missing one thing. A boyfriend. To survive unpartnered life they must answer some big questions: How many facebook status updates are too many? Is it possible to drink your bodyweight in alcohol? And is it really that bad to be single anyway? Writer and producer Tammy Weller is making her festival debut with her first full-length production, approaching women's relationship issues with healthy strokes of dark humour and blatant pop culture. She says she developed the concepts and characters for an often forgotten demographic. While there are plenty of shows that target women's issues, this play is quite unique in looking at the "single epidemic". Unmarried women aged 18 – 35 are often overlooked as subject material for theatre. "I think young women watching this play will instantly recognise themselves and their friends in the characters – let's hope they nod, grin and laugh out loud!" says Weller. An online survey was conducted to understand the key audience of Single Admissions. It revealed respondents dependence on online social media but that it rarely yielded results in the relationship pursuit. Of those surveyed 47.3% were single with 60% of those respondents happily single. Lazy Young & Talented and The Good Room perform the premiere of Single Admissions at Holden Street Theatres for The Adelaide Fringe and then perform in Brisbane in March 2010 at Metro Arts.
