THIS is what the Fringe is all about - interesting, talented, original young arts people flexing their creative wings.

I Exist comes from Melbourne, all hot and fresh and new. It is a cast of four. It is physical theatre. It is about life as a contemporary teenager.

It bears not only the brand of good theatre training but of some serious thinking - delivered as something coming close to performance art.

With a nod to Pina Bausch, the four performers dance the frustrations and limitations of their world from a set which offers them each a notional pod of electronic connectivity.

Projecting themselves as avatars, they test the dark waters of social interaction. The typed word is the safest. The Internet world with its chatrooms and FaceBook offers a greater honesty, a freedom, an outreach, an escape from dysfunctional families, a chance to be special, proof that you exist... All peril, however, lies in the screen refresh phenomenon.

One's moment is only as long as one's input.

It is a fascinating modern meditation.
