We would like to thank you for all your support of five-30-five. Your commitment to this new idea for stimulating patronage for new Australian theatre and income opportunities for theatre workers is validation of the concept.

There is a saying: "Nothing is so powerful then an idea whose time has come". Unfortunately, however, it seems that the FIVE-30-FIVE is a little ahead of its time! Despite the encouraging support and enthusiasm by many in the Adelaide Arts industry, there seems to have been a great deal of misunderstanding about the nature of the competition by many others, which has led to the postponement of the competition for this year.

I personally find this a pity as a dynamic and thriving SA Arts industry depends on encouragement of new and dynamic avenues to support emerging artists and a key element are those people/groups who get up and actively create new spaces in which to do this.

We firmly believe in the idea and we are committed to launching the competition again in 2010. Ideally our hope was to make this a competition that tapped in to the raw creative energy of theatre workers at a ground level, and that the process and the content would drive the evolution of the format. To that end, we welcome your continued support for the concept as we develop the competition and profile.

We hope the Five-30-Five competition will spark healthy and positive debate about the status quo of our industry and get people thinking about creating new work.
